With his colleague Dr Yanmin Hu, he invented and patented a new way of making antibiotics. This focuses on discovering compounds which kill dormant bacteria. These compounds also boost the effect of old antibiotics against resistant bacteria.
He is the CSO of Helperby Therapeutics, leads research teams, is author of about 150 publications (including peer-reviewed publications and 13 books as editor), is recipient of numerous national and international grants from European Commission, British MRC, charities and industry, and named inventor on many patents.
He is also the Professor of Medical Microbiology at St. George’s University in London.
